Why is it needed?
The Flandrien Scholarship Program exists to address a deep imbalance in professional cycling. Exceptional talent can be found in every region of the world, yet riders from Asia, Africa, and other emerging cycling nations remain underrepresented at the professional level. This gap is not about ability or ambition, it's about access, visibility, and opportunity.
The Challenge
In many developing cycling regions, riders grow up without consistent junior or U23 racing calendars, structured coaching, or access to equipment and sports science. National federations are often underfunded, and international race participation is costly and logistically complex. As a result, even highly talented athletes struggle to build the performance data and race experience that European teams use to identify and recruit riders. Talent exists everywhere, but it too often remains unseen.
The System Gap
Meanwhile, professional cycling's scouting networks are still concentrated in Europe. Teams focus on Belgian, French, and Italian development circuits, where riders can be monitored regularly. For athletes outside this system, self-funding a stay in Europe to race and gain exposure is nearly impossible. Without presence, performance data, or local connections, even the strongest riders are easily overlooked.
Our Solution
The Flandrien Scholarship Program was created to change that. By bringing selected riders to Belgium, the heart of global cycling, the program provides direct access to elite training environments, competitive racing, and a supportive community. Scholars live, train, and compete under the same conditions as their European peers, allowing fair comparison and greater visibility to professional teams.
Beyond athletic performance, the program focuses on personal growth and integration. Moving to Europe means adapting to new cultures, languages, and training systems. Through mentorship, coaching, and community, scholars receive the support they need to adjust, build confidence, and succeed both on and off the bike.
